Usher Wins Legal Battle to Secure Custody Of His Children From His Ex-Wife
R&B star Usher has won his custody battle with ex-wife Tameka Foster after she attempted to portray the singer as an absentee dad who was more interested in his career than their sons in court.
The former couple has been locked in a bitter custody battle over its two sons for months, but a judge in Georgia ruled in Usher’s favour on Friday and awarded him primary custody of Usher, four, and Naviyd, three.
Foster has been granted custodial rights, which have yet to be revealed.
The decision comes just days after the same judge ordered Usher to reopen his ex-wife’s credit card account at designer store Saks Fifth Avenue after closing it last year – and also pay out for his ex’s nanny bills.
During the court battle, Usher accused his ex of attacking his girlfriend, while Foster’s lawyer brought the singer to tears by questioning him about his abilities as a father.
The “Yeah!” hitmaker also claimed Foster had tried to interfere with his visitation hours as outlined in a prior agreement, prompting him to seek sole custody of his sons.
The former couple divorced in 2009 after two years of marriage.
The ruling is the latest in a string of familial hardships for Foster – her 11-year-old son Kile died in July weeks after he was declared brain dead following a jet-ski accident.
Usher attempted to stall the court proceedings to allow himself and his ex to recover fully from the tragedy, but Foster insisted the singer’s concerns were bogus and urged the judge to press on.
