Okonjo-Iweala's Mother's Kidnap: Two policemen Arrested

Commissioner Ikechukwu Aduba said the policemen had been arrested on suspicion of having aided the kidnappers.

“It is a very sad development and our major concern now is to rescue Mama unhurt,” Aduba told Reuters by phone.

Mr Aduba further denied any knowledge of ransom being demanded by the kidnappers.

“I’m not aware the kidnappers are demanding ransom and even if they are, the police cannot get involved as that would be a signal for others to continue (abductions),” Aduba said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Police Affairs; Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade (RTD.) has instructed Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar to deploy Special Police Officers from the Force headquarters, Abuja to assist in locating and freeing Prof. Okonjo from her captors.

Speaking at the opening of a two-day workshop on ‘Budgeting for Effective Policing in Nigeria ’, the minister said: “It is a very disturbing issue and in unraveling this matter, the police must take into cognisance that we have a role to let others know that such incidents will be given equal treatment. It could have been the mother of anybody’.

“Already, the IGP has deployed his men and they are working round the clock on the issue. The IG is on top of the situation. However, I have instructed the IGP to deploy specialist officers from Abuja if need be to help in fishing out the culprits”.

The palace of the Obi of Ogwuashi-Uku has been surrounded by policemen since the abduction on Sunday.

Police said someone purporting to be one of the kidnappers phoned on Monday to make some demands, but it was impossible to say whether the call was genuine.

“We have to identify the source of the call … Anybody can make spurious calls and demands,” said Delta State police spokesman Sergie Ezegam, without giving details of who was contacted or what was demanded.

“We still don’t know the reason for her abduction. What we know is that this is a crime, the woman’s life is in danger and we are making frantic efforts to rescue her,” he added.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has received threats in the past, her special adviser Paul Nwabuikwu said on Sunday.

Actress Dorothy Njemanze Harassed by Abuja Environmental Officials Who branded her a Prostitute

An Abuja-based actress, Dorothy Njemanze, Thursday alleged that she was assaulted by officials of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) in collaboration with Society Against Prostitution and Child Labour along Usuma Street, off Gana, Maitama Street, Abuja.
The actress, who is the president of Dorothy Njemanze Foundation, told journalists at an event to commemorate the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women that she was going about her business when the men attacked her in the middle of the night thinking she was a prostitute. She added that it was the second time she was assaulted by the same groups.

“My driver went to NNPC filling station to cue up and I went in to Tucano for a meeting and to sign a document and on my way out, I was assaulted by these officials. If not for the fuel queues I would have been in my house earlier, she said in tears.

“The fact that you have more armed robbers doesn’t make all men armed robbers, so why should every woman be labelled a prostitute?

“The most terrible part is that they take you to a rehabilitation centre under suspicion of prostitution which is wrong and for the past two years, I have been trying to draw people’s attention to the fact that what goes on is a random abduction and gross violation of women and I encourage everybody to join hands and let’s stop all these,” she said.

Reacting to the allegation, Head of AEPB’s Information, Joe Ukairo, said Dorothy has never visited their office for discussion, dialogue or to be properly briefed on the board’s mandate but chose to use various media platforms in a very antagonistic and unethical manner to incite the public and jeopardize the good intention of government.

“I personally think she is looking for cheap publicity and if she is trying to make an impact, she should go back to the drawing board. I don’t think her approach is in the best interest of the society at large. I have read different versions of her story on the social media and I realize she is not sincere.

“The Board sees her approach as unethical, not well intended and inimical to the larger society and we cannot allow that. I admit we may have one or two bad eggs in the system or may need to fine tune

some part of our operational strategies, all these can be worked on as no system is perfect,” he said.

Manchester City is Better Than Manchester United - Mancini

Roberto Mancini believes Manchester City are a better team than Manchester United, despite trailing their rivals in the Premier League title race.

A 3-2 derby defeat at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday has left City six points adrift of their neighbours approaching the busy festive period.

City proved last season they cannot be underestimated, as they snatched the crown in the most dramatic of circumstances, but United are determined to ensure history does not repeat itself.

Mancini is aware his side face a tough task in their efforts to mount a successful defence of their title, but feels City are still the best side in England, regardless of what the standings may suggest.

He said: "Things aren't going well but I know we will still have a great year.

"United have more experience but we have a much better team and play much better football.

"Six points is not a big difference with 24 games still to play.

"We need to try and win five or six games in a row to try and reduce the gap."
Mancini added: "Even though we lost on Sunday, we showed we are a really strong team and can win the title again.

"We were unlucky. We dominated long spells of that game and did not deserve to lose.

"The Premier League is the best campaign in the world at the moment and as we know from winning last year, you can lose a game in the last second."

Woman dies after SSS shot her 3 Sons in one day

Evangelist Helen Ukpabio's mother, Mrs Etim Ukpabio, has passed on months after witnessing the killing of three of her sons...on the same day. She also lost a daughter a few days later who died from shock after learning about what happened to her brothers.

Mrs Ukpabio's three sons, Joseph, Charles and Emmanuel Ukpabio (pictured above) were allegedly killed by men of the State Security Service (SSS) on Sunday March 25th 2012 in front of their aged mother, who family members say never recovered from the incident.
It will be recalled that the killing which was a culmination of a well-laid plan started on March 24, when three anonymous white men came to Mbente Village in Nkari clan, Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, the village where the decased, Emmanuel and Joseph, lived. They (white men) came in the company of one of one Benjamin Christopher Akpan Otu from Ifa village of the same clan. The three white men allegedly came on a courtesy visit, inviting youth leaders of the clan to come for a meeting concerning a dam that is to be constructed on their land.

Joseph Akpabio, one of the youth leaders, invited people in the village to welcome the visitors. The visitors requested for a formal meeting the next day. The youths had no idea that Benjamin, whom they consider a friend and who escorted the white men was a bait and that the other men in the white men’s entourage were actually SSS operatives. The next day’s rendezvous was fixed at Ikot Ekpene, which is about one hour drive from Nkari clan.

Benjamin, further suggested to Joseph that the meeting should be in his wife’s house at Ikot Ekpene. Joseph unwittingly accepted. The “Judas” went ahead by calling the Akpabio elder brother, Charles, a sailor who resided in Calabar, and informed him of the meeting. The latter called his brother to confirm it. To forclose any suspicion, the scheming Benjamin and his white men invited a few other youths, who were executives of the Nkari Youth, one Solomon Udoette, two others from other villages in Nkari and also the last of the Akpabio brothers, Emmanuel.

The next day March 25, the invited youth leaders left for the meeting not knowing they were on their way to their death. Joseph the host of the meeting bought drinks and prepared snacks for the coming visitors. He went the extra mile by asking his wife to buy petrol so that they could put on light and fan while the meeting lasted. The white men and their escort, Benjamin, called Joseph Akpabio to be sure he was there. They also confirmed whether his elder brother Charles, who lived in Calabar would make the meeting and the still-unsuspecting Joseph told them he was on his way.

Before long they were all assembled in Joseph’s compound. The mysterious white men came in a truck driven by one Toppa, who incidentally was a friend to the younger Akpabio, Joseph. Also in attendance was Benjamin Christopher Akpan.

Shortly into the meeting, the white men called for an interlude so they could hold a brief discussion among themselves outside. Just as they stepped out, the generator went off. The host’s wife who went out to check the cause of the power outage was confronted by about 20 policemen who all wore black T-shirts. She witnessed the final betrayal as the white men shook hands with the leader of the squad, a certain Noel Nduka before they departed.

Then the nightmare unveiled. The policemen rushed into the house rounded up those inside, handcuffed them and herded them into their trucks. Thereafter, the true intention of the meeting began to unfold as Benjamin Christopher Otu who was also handcuffed had his own handcuffs released and he suddenly began to discuss freely with the police. The police wasted no time in showing that they meant business: they shot all the six young men in their knees. Then the bizarre happening began to take the shape of a vendetta, as the Judas, Benjamin, replied that they should “go and shine in the grave”, when questioned by his friend Joseph about what crime they had committed to deserve such a treatment.  With the traitor acting as their guide, the police drove their victims to their village allegedly to find the father of Emmanuel, Charles and Joseph with the intention to kill him also.

When the death squad got to the village, they gave their traitor guide a mask to cover his face so as to hide his identity. Back to the very compound where the meeting was held the previous day, the policemen stormed the house searching for Chief Essien. However, their quarry was not at home. As they ransacked the whole house, breaking down locked doors, the masked accomplice (Benjamin) led them on with sign language, directing them to pressurize the Akpabio’s mother, madam Atim to produce her husband. When that failed, they dragged out two of their victims Charles (whose broken legs had been tied wit rafia ropes) and Joseph and dumped them by plantain trees. The two elderly women, one, their 72-year-old  mother, the other their uncle’s wife, aged 82 years cried, begged the policemen to set them free and to tell them what their crimes were. At that point Joseph did manage to tell his mother that Benjamin had set them up using the dam project.  The two boys were shot before the very eyes of their mother and their uncle’s wife while their other brother, Emmanuel, and the other three young men were taken away.

Later, Benjamin confided in one Peter Ekpenyong Inuaeyen that the four boys who were not killed were being detained at the State Police headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia. He also gave out some phone numbers which include that of Noel Nduka, the SSS officer who allegedly shot the brothers.
When a call was put through to him, Nduka allegedly confirmed that he killed the three brothers, claiming that they were terrorists. According to reports, when asked about whom they had terrorized, the SSS operatives was alleged to have claim that he has the right to kill anybody he is asked to kill.

How the other captives met their end gave a picture of a mindless cruelty. By the next day, March 26, the remaining four young men who were still alive—Emmanuel Akpabio, Solomon Udoette and two others – were driven to Obot Akara and then shot at the boundary of Nto Edino and Obot Akara at about 1a.m. of March 27, 2012. Benjamin, the Judas, again called his confidant, Peter Ekpenyong Inuaeyen and told him that “all are gone”.

Noel Nduka, later told a local newspaper that the police team encountered some robbers who operated between Abia State and Akwa Ibom and had killed all four of them.

Meanwhile, two weeks before the tragedy, Benjamin, the deceiver, came with his accomplice, Toppa, and told the late Joseph of how the youths of the land were vandalizing the property and equipment for the dam. Benjamin insisted that since Joseph is the youth president he should call Charles to accompany him to go and pick some of those things for safety. Charles later told his wife that Benjamin did a strange thing by filming them with his camera phone while they were doing that. Today, the police are using what Benjamin recorded as their evidence to the fact that the boys have been stealing from the dam.

Killed and abandoned by the road, efforts made by the family of Chief Essien Akpabio to have the corpses of the murdered young men buried decently had been futile. A lawyer, who went to see the DPO of Obot Akara, was sent back empty-handed by the recalcitrant police boss.

Reports say the old woman died a very unhappy woman sometime last month and kept begging people to help her get justice for her children.

Woman Arrested After the Tugs She Sent To Beat Up Her Boyfriend Kills Him

A 22-year old woman, Mrs. Tawa Rawan, has landed in big trouble. That was after she sent thugs to beat up her secret lover, Akeem Ganiyu, 25, at their Bariga area, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, over a disagreement.
The thugs misfired and instead of beating up Ganiyu, as directed by Rawan, they ended up killing him after inflicting several machete cuts on his body. She was arrested by the police for her alleged involvement in the murder.
The police also arrested her accomplices, identified as Joshua Damilola, 27, Akintude Sodiq, 25 and 17-year old Ismaila Riliwan. The fourth accomplice, Abiodun Adeleke, is on the run.
The incident happened at the victim’s house at 91, Arobadele Street, Bariga Lagos.

Narrating the incident, Rawan, mother of two kids, said she had a quarrel with the deceased and he slapped her and took away the money she made from bread sales.
According to her, she contacted those men to help her recover her money and to avenge the assault on her and not to kill Ganiyu. She said she was still shocked that he was killed in the process.
On her relationship with the late Ganiyu, she said he was her lover and that she is from Oyo State and married to another man with kids.

Greenwhich gathered that while she was still with her husband, she was also dating other men, including Ganiyu secretly.
On the day of the incident, she said that the late Ganiyu assaulted her and since she could not overpower him, she went and brought the suspects who eventually murdered him.
According to her, she actually sent those men to harrass and beat Ganiyu up and not to kill him.
“I did not ask them to kill him, only to harass and beat him. I later learnt that they killed him with a machete,” she said.

One of the suspects, Damilola, told newsmen that they did not intend to kill him, but used the machete after he attacked them with bottle.
“We went to ask him his problem with Rawan. Instead of anwering us, he snatched a broken bottle and stabbed me,” he stated.
He said he went to the bread factory and brought a machete and inflicted injury that resulted in Ganiyu’s death.
He also described Rawan as one of his customers at the bakery.
“I am at a loss on what to do and I don’t know how I am going to get out of this,” he cried at the station.
Another suspect, Sodiq, confessed that Rawan was also her lover but that he did not take part in the fighting.
When journalists visited the victim’s residence in Bariga, the late Ganiyu’s sister expressed shock over the death of his brother and said that she had left everything in the hands of God.
A witness told reporters that the late Ganiyu sustained several injuries on his body following the machete attack on him, adding that he died because he lost too much blood.
The body has been deposited at the Gbagada General Hospital for autopsy.

At the SCID, where the matter was transferred, Greenwich News gathered that the matter was being investigated by the same officer who investigated a murder case against a Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Lagos.
Police sources also told reporters that the suspects would soon be charged to court for conspiracy and murder.
Ganiyu’s sister, Nafisat Ismail, who sells bread at his 91, Arobadade residence, demanded for the release of her brother’s corpse so that he could be given a decent burial like a true Muslim.
She said their aged parents who are farmers in Iseyin, Oyo State, southwest Nigeria, were in support of her decision because as a Muslim, Akeem’s burial should not be unnecessarily delayed.

12 Top Christmas Internet Scams to watch out for

Online Christmas shopping is expected to grow 22.4 percent alone this year to as much as $146 billion.

ICTCatalogue.com compiled together, Top 12 christmas scams to watch out for during this holiday.

Social Media Scams — Scammers use Twitter and Facebook. Friend’s accounts can get hacked so watch for fake alerts that install “holiday deal” apps that steal private data. Twitter ads can lead to fake websites that look authentic but then ask for your credit card information.

Malicious Mobile Apps — An estimated 33 percent of apps ask for more information than they need such as access to your contacts or location. Be careful to check reviews on the smartphone’s store because a malicious app may be designed to steal your information or even send out premium-rate text messages without your knowledge.

Travel Scams — Phony travel webpages with beautiful pictures and rock-bottom prices are used to get you to hand over your financial details. The FBI recently warned travelers of a hotel Wi-Fi scam in which a malicious pop-up ad prompts computer users to install a popular software product before connecting to their hotel Wi-Fi.

Holiday Spam/Phishing — Spam emails will take on holiday themes advertising cheap Rolex watches and pharmaceuticals. Never click on the included links.

The New iPad, iPhone 5, And Other Hot Holiday Gift Scams — Phony ads and contests for the latest products will install malware or attempt to steal information.

Skype Message Scare — There is a new Skype message scam that attempts to infect computers and even hold your files for ransom. The threat appears as a Skype instant message with the scam line “Lol is this your new profile pic?”. If you click on the included link, a Trojan downloads onto your hard drive, blasts the dangerous link to all of your contacts, and can even try to extort money from some PC users to regain access to their files.

Bogus Gift Cards — Scammers will get you to “purchase” fraudulent gift cards that will not work.

Holiday SMiShing — “SMiSishing” is phishing via text message. The scammer tries to lure you into revealing information or performing an action you normally wouldn’t do by pretending to be a legitimate organization. Be wary of text messages that supposedly come from your bank and want you to verify personal information or visit a website.

Phony E-tailers – Phony e-commerce sites, that appear real, try to lure you into typing in your credit card number and other personal details, often by promoting great deals. For example, electronics repair store harborelectronics.net had a copycat store at harborelectronics.com that stole their credit cards.

Fake Charities — Scammers will copycat real charities such as the Red Cross. One man ran a bogus charity for the “U.S. Navy Veterans Association” and gathered $2 million from donors over five years!

Dangerous e-Cards — Most e-cards are safe, but there are some that will install trojan viruses. Make sure your family members are actually sending you e-cards and that the e-card comes from a well known legitimate source.

Phony Classifieds — Phony offers ask for too much personal information or ask you to wire funds via Western Union. If you’re going to purchase an item or apply for a job, try to do it in person in a public place. Pay in cash and never agree to pay for an item before receiving it.

Remember to have some sort of antivirus or anti-malware installed not only on your computer but also on your tablet or smartphone. These tips for discovering common internet scams should help you during the holiday shopping season. Merry Christmas!
