Woman Caught after hiding a 42 inch TV between Her Legs in an Attempted Shoplift
A woman has been arrested for shoplifting after walking out of a store with a 42in colour TV between her legs.
Police apprehended the woman - accompanied by her boyfriend - after she hobbled to the exit from the shop in the Norwegian capital Oslo with her skirt covering the £3,000 electrical appliance.
The woman was able to carry the widescreen television clasped between her thighs to a nearby bus stop.
But a suspicious store employee had already called police and arrested her on the bus.
She and her companion were Romanians and she told them she had 'very strong thigh muscles.'
The attempted theft happened at the Elkjøp shopping centre.
'It is not unusual that thieves put bits and bobs under their skirts of large sweaters,' said Tor Grøttom at Oslo police HQ.
'We wondered at first if this was impossible but then we tried it at
the station with female officers. It is hard - but not impossible.'
The incident happened last Thursday and the internet has been burning
up in Norway with people saying they have bet girlfriends and partners
they cannot copy the stunt.
Police said, however, there have been no copy-cat thefts reported.
The woman, nicknamed ‘Thunder Thighs’ by one Norwegian radio station,
is aged 31 and still in custody being quizzed about possible other
thefts in Norway.
The thwarted theft is the strangest in Scandinavia in nearly a decade.
In Sweden in 2005 a gang of dwarves were busted after it was discovered
they were loaded on to long-distance buses in holdalls only to emerge
in mid-journey to steal from suitcases before zipping themselves back
in their hiding places.
