Rio Ferdinand Fined £45,000 For Twitter Comment As Van Persie Completes Man Utd Move




Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand is fined £45,000 after an Independent Regulatory Commission found proven a charge of improper conduct in relation to a comment posted on Twitter, the Football Association confirm.

"The Commission decided that the comment was improper and brought the game into disrepute. In addition, the Commission found that the breach included a reference to ethnic origin, colour or race," says an FA statement.
Robin van Persie says he is looking forward to following in the footsteps of some of the great Manchester United strikers after officially signing for the the club today. The Dutch striker completed a medical last night and has signed a four-year deal, which will keep him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2016.

"It's an honour to sign for Manchester United," said Van Persie. "I am looking forward to following in the footsteps of so many great strikers, bringing my experience and playing my part to help the team compete for the biggest trophies in the game. I can't wait to get started."
