Husband of two Wives Jailed for Raping 3 Children


An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced a 45-year-old commercial motorcyclist and husband of two wives, Alabi Bakare, to five years imprisonment for raping three minors.
Magistrate A.O. Isaac, who handed the verdict, said the sentence would be without an option of fine, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
He said since the accused had pleaded guilty to the offence, the court had no option than to sentence him as charged.
NAN reports that the accused, who was arraigned on August 8, had pleaded guilty to a charge of having carnal knowledge of the minors aged between three and five.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Barth Nwaokoye, told the court that Bakare, said the motorcyclist, who resided in Mowe, Ogun State, raped the minors on August 3, 2012 at 7p.m at 19, Oluwakemi St., Alapere, Ketu area of Lagos metropolis.
"Bakare was caught in the act by a co-tenant, who reported the matter to the police," he said.
He said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
