Police Defused 963 Bombs in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has so far uncovered and defused 963 Improvised Explosive Devices since the January 20, 2012 bomb and gun attacks by Boko Haram in Kano metropolis.

Addressing newsmen at the Police Officers Mess on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, said the IEDs were of different calibers and included two “suicide- primed” car bombs.

“The command has so far recovered from 20th January to date, over 963 IEDs of different caliber including 2 suicide-primed car bombs.”

“All the IEDs were successfully detonated without causing any injury or damage whatsoever,” the CP added.

The police boss stressed that the end of Ramadan could have been marred by heavy attack by miscreants, if not for the discovery of sophisticated bombs and IEDs at a bomb factory in Tundun Bayero Village, Gada Tamburawa in Dawakin Kudun Local Government Area of the state last Saturday.

Idris explained that crime had been effectively controled in the state, as no society is totally crime-free.

He pointed out that daily raids of criminal hideouts and other flashpoints, among other measures, aided in steming the crime rate in the state.

However, he said a 20-year-old man, Ibrahim Musa, is in police custody for allegedly killing one Yakubu Ahmed, 21, during a brawl over N50.

Two members of staff of Stanbic IBTC were also paraded for allegedly paying out N21.8m from the bank coffers without authorisation.
