BREAKING: Fresh Gunfire and Explosions Reported in Damaturu

There are fresh reports of gunfire and explosions in parts of Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.

Sounds of an exchange can be heard from Ajari/Bayan Tasha and began around 11am.

Thousands of people have been fleeing some of major areas of the capital such as Pompomari, Powari, Ajari, Nayinawa, Hausari, Babbar Tsangaya, Pindigari and Shagari Lowcost since renewed raids by the JTF against suspected members of the Boko Haram sect began, leading to several arrests and deaths.

But the JTF had tried to reassure the people, urging them to stay back and ignore “rumours and speculations” as the security forces were ready to protect them.

The population of the town has reduced by more than sixty percent as residents continue to relocate.

More details, soon.
