Student Stab Colleague to Death Over Modem

President of Okumagba Avenue, Warri, Delta State, Solomon Onyeoghani, was on Friday allegedly stabbed to death with a broken bottle by a suspected cult member, Chukwuka Kelubia.

Our correspondent gathered that trouble started when Kelubia, 29, accused the deceased of stealing his internet modem.

The suspect was said to have hidden close to the victim’s house and pounced on him while he was going to his mother’s shop, stabbing him many times in the neck.

It was learnt that Solomon, 24, a 300-Level student of the Department of Business Education, Delta State University, Abraka, died on his way to a hospital in the area.

It was also learnt that Kelubia, a student of Auchi Polytechnic, had last Tuesday accused Solomon of stealing his internet modem, an allegation the deceased denied.

When journalists visited the residence of the deceased on Sunday, his father, Mr. Augustine Onyeoghani, said he had already contacted the suspect on the phone to come over for an amicable settlement of the problem.

Augustine said, “The problem started on Tuesday, when my son told me about it. I went to Kelubia’s father to tell him because we are neighbours and we come from the same local government (Ika North East).

‘’The father promised to call his son to order. I personally called him (Kelubia) on the phone and he told me that he was not around. When he eventually came on Friday, he came to my house and told me that he was going to kill my son. This happened around 4:30pm.

‘’ Immediately he (Solomon) came in, he told me that his sister was calling him from the store. Not up to 20 minutes after he left the house, someone came to tell me that he was dead.

‘’I didn’t know that the boy meant to kill my son. They did not fight. The boy rushed out from nowhere and started stabbing him with broken bottle. He stabbed him severally in the neck.”

Spokesman of the Delta State Police command, Mr. Charles Muka, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect was possibly still on the run.

“There was a struggle between the two and one died in the process. As of the last time I checked, he has not been arrested,” he said.
