Nine Die as Gangs Clash in Damaturu


The Gunfire and Explosions earlier reported today has been confirmed to be a clash of two gangs on Tuesday in Nayi- Nawa wards of Damaturu, the Yobe state capital which left nine persons dead.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Yobe Command, Mr Toyin Gbadegesin, who confirmed the incident to Channels Television in Damaturu, said the ward head of the area immediately reported the incident to the police and the corpses have been retrieved at the area by security agents.

He said the affected persons are within the ages of 18-25.

The PPRO also said the corpses had gunshot injuries as well as knife cuts which depicted a severe clash between the two factions.

Mr Toyin also revealed that one person was arrested in connection with the clash and is giving useful information regarding the clash.

Yobe state in north-east Nigeria has been beleaguered with increasing violence in recent months, claiming a number of lives with Boko Haram’s insurgency and ethno-religious violence.
