Russian Boxers Boots Nigeria's Ogoke Out of London Olympics

Team Nigeria’s last opportunity to win a medal in the boxing event of London 2012 Olympic Games, suffered a severe blow Monday afternoon, as Ogoke Edith was mercilessly beaten 18-8 points by Russia’s Torlopova Nadezda in their quarter-final bout.
Ogoke, who was Nigeria’s only female boxer to London 2012, took the middleweight fight to her opponent in the first round of the bout, grabbing 3 points apiece with the Russian.
The Nigerian lady lost control of the bout when she opened up for her Russian opponent in the second round.
Nadezda added 7 points to her previous 3, while Ogoke managed to jab her once to end the round 10-4 points.
Ogoke received more punches from the Russian in the third round, as Nadezda decked her weak Nigerian foe five times, and led the third round 15-6 points.
In the final round, Ogoke added only two points, while the Russian got her thrice to advance to the semi final with 18-8 points’ victory.
Ogoke’s ouster ended another sad day for Team Nigeria, as her bout ended shortly after the D’Tigers crashed out of the basketball event of the summer Olympics, losing 79-73 points to France.
