Nigerian Under 17 Flamingos Humiliate Host Country Azerbaijan In An 11 - 0 Win

With over 10,000 spectators, mostly home fans at the Lankaran Stadium, near the southern border with Iran, Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos humiliated their hosts with a 11-0 bashing.

The Peter Dedevbo-tutored side had been profligate in their first match against Canada and set out to repent against the hosts.

The flood gates were opened as early as the fifth minute when Chinwendu Ihezuo opened scoring. Ihezuo went on to add four more in the match to go top of the goal scorers’ chart. She capitalised on a cross that rebounded off the cross bar for a easy shot on target.

The Flamingos had 26 shots on target as against two for the hosts. They also had 14 corner kicks and dominated possession with 67% of the ball. They also got caught offside eight times.

Halimatu Ayinde and Tessy Biahwo scored two goals each as the Nigerian girls scored seven in the first half.

Their next match will be against Colombia on Saturday. The Flamingos lead their group with four points, same as Canada, who be at Colombia 1-0 – but are ahead on goals difference.
