CANCER: Scientists invent alternative to chemotherapy

President of African University of Science and Technology (AUST) Professor Wole Soboyejo yesterday disclosed that research has reached advance stage in inventing a highly effective and cheaper treatment   of cancer.
Soboyejo said the new treatment when compared with chemotherapy will be cheaper and more effective in treating cancer.

He dropped the hint at the opening ceremony of five days workshop on Nanomedecine and Bio-Micro-Electrical Systems (BIOMEMS) organized by Federal University of Technology, Minna in collaboration with AUST.

He added that the new form of treatment would be more effective than chemotherapy  because the medicine is selective, saying when administered it goes direct to the region of the disease unlike the present form of treatment which must go through all the blood vessels before attacking the area of the disease.

According to him unlike chemotherapy,  the new treatment has less or no side effect on human body, saying  chemotherapy  is not only having side effect but also expensive as the patient need to take large number of dosages of the medicine before it could go round the body.
