Navy Seizes N100m worth of Diesel

The Commanding Officer, NNS Victory of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Kingdom Itoko yesterday said that his command raided two warehouses in Bakassi Local Government Area, where they seized over 1000 drums of diesel worth over N100 million
He said one of the warehouses is within the premises of the Mic Akodot Nigeria Limited filing station which was fenced with zinc, and located a few meters away from the temporary headquarters of Bakassi Local Government at Ikang.

He said the magnitude of the seizure portends danger for the economic development of the country, but added that the Navy was battle ready to put an end to such illegal activities in compliance with the instructions given to them by the Chief of Defence Staff.

He regretted that people of the area were still involved in oil bunkering despite the fact that Governor Liyel Imoke on May 24, 2012, led a major operation where petroleum products from bunkerers were seized.  Itoko said his team will not rest until the area is rid of the trend. “This is the first stage to show our level of seriousness. We could have entered the sea, but the activities are carried out at night, and we do not have the facilities to patrol the sea in the night,” he said.
