Army Distributes Security Devices to Churches and Mosques

ABUJA - The Nigerian Army has distributed 162 vehicle-stoppers to mosques and churches in Abuja as part of measures to protect places of worship against  attack.

A total of 18 religious insti-tutions consisting of nine mosques and churches were given the equipment during a brief ceremony at the army headquarters in Abuja.

The Army Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Bitrus Kwaji, said the stoppers were made by the army engineers and that they were “so unique and can stop any vehicle that comes in contact with them from any direction.”

He said the innovation was to bar suspected bombers from reaching their targets.
The representative of the Fu’ad Lababidi Jumu’at Mosque, Zone 3 Wuse Mohammed Tamim said the beneficiaries will make use of the items and called for regular meetings with security agencies.
