Flood displaced 400 in Taraba –Council chair

More than 400 people have been displaced while farm produce estimated at N100 million were destroyed by flood in Karim Lamido, Gassol, Lau and Ardo-Kola local government areas of Taraba. Alhaji Tukura Bashiru, Chairman of Gassol local government area, made the revelation in an interview in Jalingo yesterday, expressing regrets that the incident which had become a perennial occurrence, was due to high volume of water in River Benue.
The chairman said the most affected villages included Amar and Ziff in Karim Lamido local government area and Kwatanido, Maigemu and Kwatataro in Gassol local government area. “The flood followed days of torrential rainfall and increase in the volume of water in the River Benue as a result of the opening of the flood gates of Lagdo Dam in the Republic of Cameroon. The council is still taking stock of the extent of damage caused by the flood in the affected communities’’, he said.
