Police Parades Suspected Killers Of Policemen and Others In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday paraded two suspects, Rasheed Suleiman and Kazeem Enifolabi, believed to members of a robbery gang that carried out a bloody attack in Lagos a little over a week ago.

The suspects, who were paraded at the headquarters of the state police command in Ikeja, Lagos, were said to have given the police tips on how to arrest members of the gang that carried out the attack on Sunday, September 9, 2012 that led to the deaths of three policemen and four others.

The attack across some parts of the metropolis began around 10.45a.m when robbers riding in two jeeps seized currencies from money changers at Ifako-Gbagada.

The jeeps, driven by two women, according to witnesses, moved to Anthony, Oshodi, Agege and Ikeja, with the robbers shooting and killing some policemen and civilians.

The attack angered the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, who said at an event in Lagos the following day that policemen in the state were sleeping.

Addressing journalists at the parade, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ms. Ngozi Braide, said they were arrested based on information received by the Special Anti-robbery Squad in Ikeja, led by Mr. Abba Kyari, Superintendent of Police.

She said the squad arrested a suspect, Rasheed Suleiman, in Dopemu area of Lagos State and he led the police to a suspected accomplice, Kazeem Enifolabi, at Oshodi.

Braide also said the police had recovered two AK47 rifles and four magazines inside them as well as a vehicle believed to have been used in the operation at Wahabi Street, Akerele, Agege, Lagos.

The two suspects, however, denied participating in the robbery.

Suleiman, who described himself as a phone thief, said it was Kazeem who informed him about the operation.

He stated that he was given N3000 by the robbers to keep quiet on the operation.
