In fulfillment of its promise, MTN Plc yesterday doled out
N12.9million to successive teams in the season five of the MTN Lagos
Street Soccer Championship.
At the presentation ceremony held in
Lagos yesterday, MTN’s Mass Market Manager, Innocent Oboh said, the
company was willing to support youths to fulfill their dreams, adding
that they would continue to support youth in their quest to soar high in
lives.
The four teams that played in the final shared N11million
while the women teams rewarded with the sum of N1.95million.
Oboh
lauded the teams for their scintillating performance during the
tournament.He disclosed that that 900 teams featured in this year’s
which surpassed the previous editions.
He however, charged the
players to continue to work hard, while pledging the company’s
commitment to the competition, which he said has become a rallying point
for budding football stars in the country.
“One of the ways to
get to the grassroots is to give the young Nigerians the opportunity to
get to the top and for us at MTN, we want the people to realize their
dream at all times. What we are doing today is to fulfill our promise
because of what MTN stands for and we hope this will take you to the
next level in your career,” Oboh charged the teams during the
presentation ceremony held in Lagos.
After aiming three attempts
at winning the tournament, Koilo Street of Lagos Island beat Ajao Jimoh
Street of Igando LCDA 1-0 to claim the star prize of N5million.
Runner’s
up, Ajao Jimoh got N3million for their efforts while the third and
fourth placed teams got N2million and N1million respectively.
For
the women event, Go4goals won the tournament to get N1million, while
Gaskiya who finished as runners up got N500, 000. The third and fourth
placed teams got N300, 000 and N150, 000 respectively.
