Not less than ten people were feared killed Sunday night when some houses were razed down during clashes between troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) and some gunmen in Gwange area of Maiduguri.Greenwich News gathered that series of gunshot rented the air shortly after an explosion in the area around 8:30pm on Sunday night.
A resident of the troubled area who does not want to be named said “a bomb suspected to have been planted exploded around past 8pm and injured two JTF men who are on patrol.”
According to him, soon after the explosion, gunshots rented the air but the JTF after repelling the attack quickly cordoned off the area, adding that the exchange of gun duel between the JTF and the attackers led to the killing of some people, while several houses were also razed down.
“I cannot tell whether those killed were innocent people or the houses which were set ablaze belongs to the attacker, but all I saw with my eyes was that some corpses were littered on the streets on Monday morning.’’ He added.
A hospital attendant at the State Specialists Hospital who does not want his name mentioned told newsmen that that he saw two patrol vehicles of the JTF with some corpses around the gate of the hospital, adding that each of the vehicles carried five dead bodies yesterday morning.
In another incident on Sunday evening gunmen shot and injured a Business man and a top stakeholders of ANPP in Yobe state, Alhaji Mustapha Sheriff Mashidimami.
Witnesses said the incident happen at about 8:45pm when the gunmen invaded the house of the politician in Damboa road.
The spokesman of the JTF, Lt. Col Sagir Musa could not be reached on his phone as at the time of filing this report due to the poor communication problem presently being experienced in Maiduguri.
